allnex Wallingford Presents Two Local High School Students with STEM Scholarships
Students Recognized for their Commitment to STEM careers.
Wallingford, Connecticut June 30, 2017 allnex recently awarded two local high school seniors with scholarships to pursue their collegiate studies in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields. These students have demonstrated not only a passion for STEM, but an impressive academic record.
Mason Ginter of Lyman Hall High School and Margaret Brien of Mark T. Sheehan High School were presented with their scholarships at awards ceremonies in May.
“allnex is pleased to support local students in their pursuit of STEM careers. It’s encouraging to see so many high school students interested in this exciting career choice,” Frank DiCristina, site manager of allnex Wallingford. “We welcome the opportunity to assist them in any way we can as they begin their studies in this ever-evolving field.”
Brien intends to pursue a biomedical engineering degree while Ginter has plans for computer science and physics. Each have an impressive overall GPA, with outstanding grades in their major classes. With a variety of extracurricular activities and community involvement rounding out their academics, each is poised for success both in and out of school. Both students have University of Connecticut at the top of their list for school choice.
According to the US Department of Commerce, STEM careers are on the rise. In fact, they’re expected to increase by 8.9% compared to 6.4% for non-STEM. Also, STEM workers will enjoy a nearly 29% higher wage, up from 26% in 2010.
Ginter states in his scholarship application that he plans to become a data scientist and use computers to solve difficult problems using large data sets. He intends to continue his baccalaureate studies with graduate work. Brien’s plans are in honor of her grandmother as she seeks to use her studies to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
“We are honored to present the allnex 2017 STEM scholarships to these two students whose drive, determination and passion in STEM careers will not only give-back to their local communities but to the world,” DiCristina said.
